I know many people choose to make a New Year’s resolutions list every single year and usually end up not making it through January continuing said resolutions. I was one of those people……for years! As if every year, I would become a different person just because the clock struck midnight and a “new year” would change me!
My resolutions would include “I’ll exercise more” or “sleep less”. I have no idea what I was thinking! Hot mess express coming through!!
Now I choose to think of every day of the year as New Year’s Day….a day to start anew with fresh eyes, a clear mind, and a good heart. I don’t need one day a year to make changes to my life. Every day is an opportunity to become a better person. 2018 was definitely a year of changes for me. Stopped traveling after almost 5 years and took a permanent job, bought a house, completed my first year of nurse practitioner school, and began the painstaking process of infertility. As of right now, I have no idea where 2019 will take me but I can’t wait to find out! Just like the other millions of people in this world, I have good days and bad days and days in between but every morning I have the chance to start all over again. A luxury that not every person has or is willing to take.
So for those of you that make and keep your New Year’s resolutions, kudos!! For those of you that make your resolutions and fail within two weeks, kudos to you too since you are willing to keep trying!! The only way to truly fail is to no longer try and though I am far from perfect, I will continue to try. 2018 taught me some very hard lessons about life including that I need to learn self-care (more bubble baths and massages 🙂 in my future) and how to say no (believe me it’s ok!). My goals for 2019 are to take the lessons from 2018, learn from them, and start each day as a “New Year”.
